My salad dressing days

I can’t wait to take my kids to the beach again

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles: and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as the world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea

e e cummings

Beautiful words, from a wonderful soul, and great mother.

I miss those beach days with my children.

Now, I have a whole new set of issues. (and worries, as you know)

I love this. and it’s so apparent you haven’t lost yourSELF in motherhood … but enriched it. xoxo

A wonderful poem by Cummings. He really perfectly captures in a nursery-rhyme tone going to the beach as a child with siblings, and each person finding an item that captures their imagination. I really need to return to the sea where I, like Maggie, might forget my troubles. 🙂
